SOLUTION

I have selected The Compromise of 1850, The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, and the Lincoln Douglas Debates of 1858 as my preferred leading events that led to the American Civil War. I firmly believe that these events played a significant role in causing the American Civil War.

The Compromise of 1850 comprised of 5 laws that the Congress had passed in efforts to solve the slavery problem within the territories acquired in the course of Mexican war.  The compromise was geared towards instilling temporary peace, and was initiated by Republican Senator Henry Clay (Corbett et al., 2016). The plan was to admit California as a free state while leaving New Mexico and Utah to choose between being free or slave states. The compromise act also introduced the Fugitive Slave Act, a law that allowed the Federal government to help in recapturing reed black people and those who helped in the freeing of slaves. The Northerners hated this law, which widened the gap between the Northerners and Southerners (Cumbler, 2021). The lingering resentment and tensions brought about by its provisions played a major role in the outbreak of American civil war. PLEASE CLICK THE PURCHASE BUTTON TO ACCESS THE ENTIRE COPY AT $5
