SOLUTION

Option 2: Abolishing the Electoral College

In contemporary American society, the Electoral College is viewed as a complex campaigning and voting system (Mascioli et al., 2020). The main reason for the creation of the Electoral College was the thought that the average citizen lacks the appropriate intelligence in selecting the most appropriate individual in leading the nation. Therefore, the Electoral College is mainly run by individuals who have the knowledge and skills in making decisions on behalf of the larger population; hence their votes count in electing the president. However, the Electoral College seems to perform functions that are out of hand and tends to limit the citizens from exercising their democratic rights on electing their most preferred candidate to lead them. For instance, during the 2020 presidential election, the American citizens do not actually cast their votes directly in electing the president; instead, they voted for the state’s representatives, evident in the Electoral College.
