SOLUTION

Assessment of Certification, Patient Outcomes, and Leadership

  1. State the clinical certification and target population that was approved by your instructor in the Week 2: Direct Care Part 1 Assessment and Diagnosis Check-In.

  1. Clinical certification

I selected the certified emergency nurse (CEN) certification. It is issued by the Board Of Certification For Emergency Nursing to registered nurses specializing in the emergency department.

  1. Target population including setting

The project will target registered nurses in the emergency department

  1. Discuss why this clinical certification was selected in relationship to the selected setting.

Registered nurses working in the emergency department have inadequate knowledge and understanding of this specialized certification. The objective of this project is to furnish this population with relevant information on the certification and its benefits. Research shows that emergency nursing is a highly fluid and dynamic practice that requires continued learning. The clinical certification warrants continued learning, thereby supporting emergency nursing.

  1. Describe the criteria for selected clinical certification
    1. The process to obtain clinical certification

The Board Of Certification For Emergency Nursing lays out the certification process in detail. It all starts with setting up a profile on the website. Secondly, one should check their eligibility (BCEN, 2021). The board requires one to have a valid U.S. registered nurse license or an equivalent. For the foreign candidates, the board uses the International Credential Evaluation service to verify submitted documents. Thirdly, the candidate fills in the application for CEN certification (BCEN, 2021). The fourth step is to submit the application and pay the required fee. It takes a span of 3 to 4 weeks for the board to complete the application (BCEN, 2021). Once the application is processed and approved, one receives an email notification to schedule the exam. There is a 90-day window to schedule and take the exam. When scheduling the exam, one is also allowed to select a testing site via Pearson VUE (BCEN, 2021). The board does not offer refunds after one has already scheduled for an exam. One is advised to allow themselves ample time to prepare for the exam. On the scheduled date, one is to report to their selected testing site as the exam is administered physically within a time frame of 3 hours (BCEN, 2021). Results of the test are given before leaving the testing site. Those who pass await certification and those who fail the exam wait to receive an email with communication on how to reapply.
