Access the following information. You may read the PDF online or download it.

U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. (2019).  Brief summary of results from the 2018 national sample survey of registered nurseshttps://bhw.hrsa.gov/sites/default/files/bureau-health-workforce/data-research/nssrn-summary-report.pdf (Links to an external site.)

  1. Review the data presented in the ANA Fast Facts and describe some of the key attributes/characteristics of this sample of the nursing workforce.
  2. Discuss some of the data that you found interesting; include what you believe the purpose (intent) of ANA sharing these results.
  3. The instruments and tools that we use to collect data need to be reliable and valid. Define these terms and explain the importance of each. Share one way that can be used to collect data that you were not aware of or familiar with.

SOLUTION

The data in this sample provides a lot of information regarding the nursing practice which
include, the age, education levels, RN income, demographics, and gender. It is evident that
between the year 2008 and 2018, there has been a 29% increment in the number of actively
registered nurses in the United States. The average age for the nurses according to the article as
of 2018 was 47.9 years, with approximately 47.5% of the RNs being 50 years and above, a clear
indication of an aging workforce in the nursing profession. The study points out that the male
nurses have increased in the profession, with a notable 2.5% growth rate between 2008 and 2018
(U.S Department of Health and Human Services, 2019).
The most interesting aspect to me was the disparity in the numbers between the male and female
nurses in the profession as indicated in the article. It is obvious that the female nurses continue to
dominate the profession. However, there has been some notable growth for the men in nursing
demographic, from 7.8% to 9.6% between 2018-2018 (U.S Department of Health and Human
Services, 2019). I also find it interesting that despite the profession being dominated by female
nurses, the study reveals that as of 2018, male nurses had higher median earnings of
approximately $79, 928 as compared to their female counterparts who got $71, 960 (U.S
Department of Health and Human Services, 2019).This could be attributed to the fact that more
men are employed in hospital settings where salaries are higher, or able to work over time, but
either way the data set was interesting to me.

Reliable can be specified as” tools determine a variable with precision as well as consistency” (Chamberlain 2021) and Valid can be define as” tools measure in a manner that is precise and honest. A legitimate tool measures the proper measure/data” (Chamberlain 2021). Please click the purchase button to access the entire copy at $5
