Discussion Question

Download and open the AACN Essentials Self-Assessment (Links to an external site.). Complete the self-assessment of your current comfort levels and total your score. If you are willing, please share your results with your classmates in your discussion post. (Remember, this is the starting point for our course and the start of the knowledge we will learn over 8 weeks).

As you reflect on your score, identify areas where your knowledge could use improvement. Whether you are a new graduate or a seasoned nurse, it is important to keep in mind that all professional nurses are knowledge workers. Utilizing the readings from your textbook, describe your current knowledge base in informatics and how you can improve your knowledge as they relate to nursing informatics and AACN essential. What additional questions do you have as they relate to nursing informatics and the AACN essentials?

SOLUTION

My score for the AACN Essentials Self- Assessment was 44. I am not sure how much I trust the self- assessment score just because if I had to consider my overall computer literacy, I would think the score would drop. Software and database spreadsheets seem foreign to me. Working with different Clinical Information Systems at various healthcare facilities has helped increase my understanding of documenting nursing interventions for safe patient outcomes.

Areas of Improvement

The areas where I could use improvement relate to the proper use of standardized nursing terminology to reflect nursing contributions. Utilizing or understanding CIS systems are also areas that I need improvement. Understanding and using Clinical Information Systems is an important element to patient safety which can be contradicted by usability and the creation of new CIS updates (Lee, 2018).

As a novice user of Clinical Information Systems, it becomes important not to use abbreviations and shortcuts to prevent patient safety errors (Lee, 2018). Please click the purchase button to access the entire copy at $5
