SOLUTION

My topic of choice for this discussion is on the role of government on employee protection. Businesses in the country are regulated by local, state, and federal law. An article by Richard R. Nelson describes the state labor legislation enactment in 1989. In this article, Nelson lists an array of legislation topics all related to employment. One main topic was the enactment of minimum wage in some states, such as Iowa. This prompted other states to increase their minimum wage as well, which was Rhode Island, New Hampshire, Arkansas, and North Dakota (Nelson, 1989). Furthermore, other topics in the state labor legislation were covered in Nelson’s article. Child labor laws were written to limit the maximum working hours for 16 -17 year old students. New restrictions in Maryland prohibited minors under the age of 18 from working in sanitation or in dangerous chemical settings (Nelson, 1989).
