Start by reviewing Chapter 2 of the textbook (Boddy, 2020). From there, you may wish to incorporate more specific themes covered elsewhere.
You may consider approaching to the question by including one or more of the following areas*
• The emergence of classical management theory and the modern business activities.
• Evaluate the applicability (or not) of classical management theories to contemporary organisations by using competing values framework.
• The role technology plays in allowing greater monitoring and control of employees.
• The extensions and amendments made to classical theories by more recent theoretical contributions.
• The difference between some of today’s contemporary organisational forms and those understood and promoted by classical theorists.
*You do not need to answer all these points; they are just meant as suggestions for some of the themes you might like to explore in your answer. However, you do not need to limit your understandings in these themes.

The classical management theories assume that for a workplace to be ideal, three main concepts must be present and they include hierarchical structure, specialization as well as incentives.  Some of the main contributors of the classical theories include Fayol, Max Weber, and Fredrick Taylor who emphasized on enhancing organizational functions through efficiency and productivity. The theories are still widely used in the modern era, more so in the manufacturing sector, where organizational structure is paramount.
