SOLUTION
Hello professor and class,
Hip hop music dates back to the 1970s. However, its popularity increased in the 1980s and peaked in the 1990s onward. In the 1980s, the influence of rock music began to dwindle, allowing for the rise and spread of hip hop music. Individuals over 30 years were still slow to accept the music. One rock musician said that hip hop was not music but rather “an incessant boom boom” (Neumann, 2000). One of the historical changes that happened in the 1980s was that rock music stopped creating a generational divide. Instead, it moved to unite parents and their children. On the other hand, rap or hip hop music created a generational divide by touching on issues that young people found important and that older adults disagreed with.
